Founded in 1988 as a precision machine shop by David Suffern, Meta Tec originally specialized in machining of aluminum and iron castings. Products produced when the company started included aerospace components as well as hydraulic transmission and pump bodies. As the company grew so did the size of the parts and the machines producing them.

In order to broaden Meta Tec's capabilities and customer base the company also began to do fabrication work for various customers. The principles used in the production of the precision hydraulic components were also applied to the manufacture of the fabricated parts with huge success. As the amount of fabrication work grew the company was split into two divisions. These divisions took on the names Meta Tec Incorporated for the original precision machining company and Meta Tec Limited for the newly formed fabrication company. In 2002 another company was added to the group when a facility in Varna, IL was acquired. The newest company named Meta Tec Development specializes in first cut operations as well as heavy fabrication.

Current customers include Caterpillar East Peoria, Caterpillar Aurora, Caterpillar Decatur, Caterpillar Morton, Hitachi Truck Manufacturing, Waukesha Engine and BOMAG Americas.
